Folk 'n' Fun weekends started in 1984
when a group of folkies from The Black Bull Folk Club in Blaydon took over
an outdoor centre near Keswick for the weekend and had a great time. Since
then the weekends have continued twice a year, in March and October.
So what is a Folk 'n' Fun weekend?
A bunch of likeminded people go away for
the weekend - drink, sing, play or listen, but generally enjoy themselves
with an ample supply of wet stuff to lubricate the throats and musical
appendages. People arrive from Friday afternoon with a singaround from 7:30
pm until we are asked to vacate the premises, which is usually quite late
(or early depending on how you look at it). There are more singarounds on
Saturday afternoon and evening culminating in a final get together on Sunday
afternoon.
You don't have to stay all weekend, you
can even just drop in at the sessions whenever you like!
